Enrichment Programs


  Primary Choir

  Runs April through June, Tuesdays

  before school, for grades 1-3. 

 

     Secondary Choir

     Runs October through March, Tuesdays

     before school, for grades 4-6. 

  Beginning Band

  Flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone.

  Open to 5th and 6th graders at no

  charge. Before school at Kirkland Jr.

     Violin, viola or cello. Open to 4th - 6th

  Intermediate Band

  Open to 6th graders.

     Intermediate Orchestra

     Open to 5th and 6th graders.

     Prerequisite: Beginning Orchestra.

  Guitar Class

  Runs April through June, Mondays

  after school, for grades 5 and 6.

 

     Piano Keyboard Club

     Offered by Musical Minds for beginners

     and returning students, grades 1-6. Learn

     to read music and play favorite tunes on

     an electric piano keyboard. For details

Spanish
Classes (twice a week, 40 minutes) begin in October, before or after school. A.C.E. (American Cultural Exchange) provides qualified teachers who are native speakers or of equivalent proficiency. Contact Katherine if interested. Registration Form. Program details are on the A.C.E. website.


Wednesday After School Chess Club

Classes are designed for students (grades K-5) interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess.  To get more information or register, visit Chess4Life.


Wednesday After School Art Class

Classes offered by Art For Kids School. Children have an opportunity to explore their creativity through a variety of materials including pen and ink, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, clay, and plaster. Tuesday After School Science Club

Classes offered by Science Adventures starting in November. Members share in science discovery while being introduced to science concepts through hands-on experiments, activities and take-home projects. Contact Chitra or visit their website for more information and online registration.


Reflections Art Program: Wow!

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. It recognizes students' creative talents, providing an opportunity for them to express themselves through original works of art in six categories. The theme for 2008/2009 is Wow! Questions, contact Beverly.


Student Council

Council officers include president(s), vice president(s), secretary(s), treasurer(s), historians, activity coordinators and service managers/stage crew. Applications are accepted in the fall from 5th and 6th graders. Contact Ms. Fraley with questions.


School Play

Open to 4th-6th graders with auditions in January and performances in March.


Science Fair

This is an opportunity for students to explore the world around us and share that
information with others. Science projects are displayed during the day and evening for viewing. Open to all grades. Contact:
Ama.


5th/6th Grade Math Olympiad Club
In the fall and winter, students will participate in the National Math Olympiad, which is a series of five highly challenging tests. In the spring, we will begin preparation for a team contest held on May 21. This club is a fantastic way for students to be exposed to new math concepts, work together in groups, and have a lot of fun in the process. 


Safety Patrol Program
Open to 4th-6th graders (10 years old and up). Safety Patrol members arrive at school 15 minutes early or stay 15 minutes after school to monitor crosswalks, greet students, help kindergartners, and monitor children as they arrive on the bus. Applications are available starting in April for the upcoming year. Contact Miss Lailey with questions.


Book Clubs

There are three clubs (4th, 5th and 6th graders) which meet once a month during their lunch recess to discuss an assigned book.


 


Parent Education

The school district provides the PTSA with funds for parent workshops or presentations that will help educate Lakeview parents. If you are interested in working with our school counselor in organizing and choosing these workshops, please contact  Anne Marie.
